Actress Heather Woodruff Perry
In honor of 10/10/10, I am profiling 10 of my friends that either have a new book, an exciting social cause, or simply want to share about their life. I asked American actress Heather Woodruff Perry to participate. She is a very well versed actress working on screen as well as in stage plays, and on radio. When you have the privileged opportunity of meeting her (such as myself, my husband, two daughters and son)in person, she is tall,funny, smart, sweet, with beautiful vibrant red hair, and a very sincere, loving person. She recently has had hand surgery, so asking her to share an update on her life was a major feat for her to take the time to accommodate my request. "I'm making silver jewelry with Balinese beads and precious stones. And continuing to work on my book about my adventures as a young actress in Hollywood in the mid-Sixties, Screen Gems, Getting cast as Betty on Bewitched. This brought me an offer to go to Vietnam with Bob Hope."
"I asked if I could go with a smaller group and The USO gave me a band of 3 musicians and I sang and danced, told jokes and was "just a girl from HOME" to our fighting soldiers in remote combat area's, Field Hospitals and ended up with 5,000 men and ME on the largest Aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin The USS Enterprise! I'm a lucky blessed girl. I am also performing at the Old Time Radio Convention in Los Angeles SPERDVAC, on November 6th, playing another colorful character in a Nero Wolf episode."

Hi my name is Charles Tranberg and I enjoy writing about classic Hollywood and the people who made that era so great. Gina graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Marketing from California State University, Fresno and also has her emergency teaching credential. She lives in the Central Valley with her graphic designer husband David and son and daughter. Her first three titles are about the ever enchanting, magical sitcom, Bewitched, which have sold over 3,000 copies worldwide. He was in the witch’s room at the Hawthorne Motor Hotel. Standing in front of him were the guard and the bald man. His heart was racing. Then the blonde witch appeared, smiling as she reached her hand out to him and said, “Oh, hello!” There he was, less than a foot away, looking down at this giant of TV-comedy—Elizabeth Montgomery of ‘Bewitched!‘
Gary Richard was hired as Dick Sargent’s stand-in and was adopted by the ‘Bewitched’ family, joining in their day-to-day routines—working, eating and hanging out with them. His fame as the Gloucester Fisherman statue quickly spread throughout Cape Ann where he became a cause-célèbre as fans desperately sought out his autograph. If you are reading this blog, then you are concerned about your kids and the current state of affairs in the social media circuit. Kids don’t have to be afraid of other children; there are ways of coping as a parent and as a child. Below, are suggestions on helping to mitigate the bad behavior of others. To help mitigate bad behavior.........
For elementary to high school students.
Adult intervention of bullying can sometimes be effective but once the pattern of behavior in the environment is set, it can really be like trying to re-wire some kind of heavily jammed circuit panel.
Age appropriate monitoring of “infringing inter-personal behavior” can help. Talking about how to interact in “healthy ways” will offer “healthy leaned behavior”. Some people let children handle their problems themselves. For mathematics problems, that is fine. If personal resolutions are resolved with infringing behavior, the result will fortify the infringing behavior or force. Over time and left unchecked, it can evolve into frequent infringing behavior - bullying. “Boys will be boys” aka “Kids will be kids” should have probably evolved by now into “Boys will be men” and “Kids will grow up” by guiding corrective behavior.
The recipient side of bullying evolve repression and, sometimes, serious depression or. as seen on a few high school and college campuses, vindictive thoughts can turn into full-fledged revenge. So we see, bullying is not kid’s play it is kid’s dismay.
When bad behavior is not corrected, or behavior problems are not guided to better footholds, they can have a manifestation of abusive adult behavior. Remember, many our incarcerated adult had behavioral issues, learning disorders and/or abuse treatment in their childhood. Had these individual been nurtured with today’s parenting knowledge, they could perhaps have lead more contented and more productive lives; it may have lead to a lot less victimization as well.
Early in new group is the best time to for this exercise. Ask the group to outline an Anti-Bullying Alliance. As the youth themselves will be entrenched in youthful dynamics, they need to gain an understanding amongst themselves about classroom and school inter-personal skills. Without building peer alliances, they can become major contributors to problems or passivity to growing problems; they may “opt out” or “opt in” to “infrequent or frequent infringing behavior” themselves. It is important to for them not to see this assignment come and go but become a spring board for working with each other better. Students can be fortified by hearing each other talk about infringing behavior and its ills.
For youth: Create an Anti-Bullying Alliance. Define the word “infringing” and define examples of infringing behavior to them.
Ask parent to discourage infringing behavior at home, between both siblings and adults, to complement school strategies for anti-bullying.
a. Make an outlining about respecting others.
b. How might other students include a student that is becoming isolated?
c. How peers can help other peers ‘back down’ from exhibiting any bullying-type behavior?
d. How can peers help other peers to adjust intermittent bad behavior for more appreciated - better behavior?
e. How can responsible adults actually help make a difference if things start brewing out of control?
For adults: Create an Anti-Discrimination Accord. Use this outline to thwart discrimination of others within your cultural community, yourself and others.
Children get our concepts of other cultures when they talk in generalization about them.
Children may take generalizations as “person specific”; this can create cross-cultural tension that might not otherwise enter a classroom setting.
a. What cultural celebrations have you attended outside of your own? A How did you like it? Were you comfortable?
b. Think about three people you know who perhaps dispelled ‘generalizations’ for you. Write about or discuss why ‘generalization’ cause problems for people we do not know.
c. Why are genders equal?
d. Discuss the variety of foods in different continents. Talk about your local environmental renewals that are needed.
e. Discuss careers and local community goals to get to know one another.
f. Talk to your children about the individual in the culture not ‘generalizations’ of the particular culture.

Have You Had Your Helping of God today?
God tells us to put our faith in him, nothing else! So why it is my daughter is thinking God hates us. We have had our share of economic, emotional, spiritual depletion, but God doesn’t want us to be desperate for anything. Case in point, the Judge Alex Show, I was desperate for resolution. A mistaken $3,700 occurred today, desperate for money. God doesn’t want us to be desperate for anything, he will provide even when I’m busy ignoring him. So have you had your helping of Jesus today?

Longo asks “What is your Egological Footprint?
An allegorical tale about being a part of a rising consciousness. Longo maintains there can be a “masterpeace”; we can intuitively help one other to resolve issues in order to not remain one’s own, or another’s arduous albatross. By creating calm, we celebrate civility.
New York author Liz Longo using birds of Australia to glide one along a poetic path to unravel a soul’s angst as it offered havoc to his grey cockatiel self and others. The poet puts one in touch with an inner poetic nature that we have that rouses soulful dialogue, such is what is needed to be reached, spoken to, to resolve inner and outer conflicts.

On life’s angst....

Refreshing is a poet writing for the progression of peaceful human ways. We may ignore that little bird fluttering that flutters in our subconscious, but these bird enjoy the light of the day on bettering our own human nature.

An allegorical tale about being a part of a rising consciousness. Longo maintains there can be a “masterpeace”; we can intuitively help one other to resolve issues in order to not remain one’s own, or another’s arduous albatross. By creating calm, we celebrate civility.
New York author Liz Longo using birds of Australia to glide one along a poetic path to unravel a soul’s angst as it offered havoc to his grey cockatiel self and others. The poet puts one in touch with an inner poetic nature that we have that rouses soulful dialogue, such is what is needed to be reached, spoken to, to resolve inner and outer conflicts.
“In time a tug of war will fade to civility,
As one meets life with cordial affability,
As new cycles of compassion
replace old cycles of duress.”
On life’s angst....
“In flew a moment of time,
Before sorrow clawed on,
A time blissful and still,
I reset my soul to that,
Not to forget to relieve the pain
.....and tell that I will to the future,
Not in anger but in peace.”
Refreshing is a poet writing for the progression of peaceful human ways. We may ignore that little bird fluttering that flutters in our subconscious, but these bird enjoy the light of the day on bettering our own human nature.

In a juxtaposition, Longo gives the Albatross a voice on the albatross of nature itself - a-hem, but then goes forward to say “We are reviving the health of the physical global environment, people can in-kind renew themselves to bring the world less chaos. Simple pragmatic suggestions made to living more naturally amid nature are the breath of fresh air.

Author Liz Longo is a native New Yorker. Her Italian family arrived on Ellis Island in the start of the 1900’s with two simple dollars and not a word of English. The boat broke down on the way but that’s another story. As a result, Liz very much relates to and appreciates the ever changing population, bringing new smiles, flavors and spices to the city.
The Bird and Its Albatross was inspired by the New York Public Library’s French Book Art/Livres D’Artists, Artist and Poets in Dialogue exhibit in 2006 of artist collaborations between 1874 and 1999. Liz maintains “The merge of art forms reveals the beautiful depth of humanity’s soul, we can collaborate peace...a masterpiece, if we are supportive of each other’s simple existence.”

If You Don't Think God has a sense of humor...
If you don’t think God has a sense of humor, then you haven’t lived my bewitching life. Just a few days ago, I was helping my daughter look words up via the thesaurus for her assignment on The Pearl. And sure enough, one of my favorite words, bewitching was listed under captivating. For some reason I never thought of the word bewitching as having so much appeal. For me, I always equated the word with the television show Bewitched and didn’t really think much about the word outside of the TV show. But, the “ing” gives it so much power. It makes the word move, which is exactly what I was expecting to do, move my body to a Dragon Con convention in Atlanta, Georgia, this very Labor Day weekend, 2010. But things kept getting in the way, things also known as life. My generous spirit and outgoing personality and can do attitude landed me in a lot of trouble this week, apparently one of my friends friends whom I entrusted with a collaborative book project, me pay, she edit, turned into a “she” said “she” said kind of scenario. With the basic premise of that story being, I don’t give a shit about you Gina, I have success issues as well as control issues, and a convenient memory, so take your book the one you spent the past year writing, of which you even followed what I asked you to do, credit me as editor, and take my recipes out of the book.” There is only one thing I hate, it is liars. But as everyone in the universe is already aware, I don’t hold grudges, dwell on much, nor do I gossip or talk about others, unless they are liars. Then I occasionally dwell and occasionally dish. Consultation with my husband led me “just agree” that I should remove the recipes, even though that wasn’t what we agreed upon. After a trip with her sister to Sur La Table (a place I dream about, but don’t ever have enough money to actually buy anything at, except my Le Cruset, which was twenty years in the making of a reality), I received a panicked phone call last October or Novemberish. It reminded me of a conversation that a girlfriend and boyfriend might have, so bizarre. “Well, I just went to Sur La Table with my sister and she and I don’t think there is a place for your Fresno State Cookbook. The cookbooks are high end, with full color glossy photos, and I just don’t feel comfortable having my name associated with your cookbook, it won’t be competitive enough and your printing capabilities seem really limited. Then, the boyfriend girlfriend breakup line. “Your Twilight cookbook has a hook, your Fresno State Cookbook doesn’t.” And, it wasn’t like she was getting paid to dull free advice, why girlfriend boyfriend and not sister to sister? Because she invested time in a project I created willingly and saw something better on the market, decided to break off our relationship based upon a strange sense of loyalty?
Back to the coveted volunteer position as my Bewitched friend Alice so aptly put it.
I was supposed to be volunteering in Atlanta, Georgia at Dragon Con, meeting fans of I Dream of Jeannie as well as the stars, instead my husband’s paycheck got lost in between our old bank and credit union, and then my sociable, vivacious six year old son, got a sampling of public school via the top ranking MUSD school in all of the valley, if not the country, exactly one block from our typically suburban cul de sac, and he started having meltdowns so severe, tears gushing from his eyes, snot running down his nose, wishing for mommy, pretty strange stuff, separation anxiety. So I kept asking myself, God, why did you delay my husband’s paycheck? Why did we not have the funds to send me to Atlanta for the convention? Why can’t we all find a way to go? I was so disappointed primarily because I do a lot of things for other people and rarely ask nor do much for myself, except for write, which is really my great escape. Hint: Gemini’s such as myself love talking, love writing, and love sharing, but only the truth and only if it makes the Gemini feel better. Adult spoiler: I recently read that Gemini’s love to talk about sex, more so than actually doing it. Which my husband will probably agree to that statement. Which in case would account to me having so many gay guy friends, cause they are sweet, not threatening, and they love to listen and talk too. In which/witch case I have a problem, Gemini is ruled by the twins, like cousins Serena and Samantha from Bewitched. Which means, when one twin fesses, the other twin is mad because she wanted to be the first to share the news.
Welcome to my life two court TV producers sent me and David letters telling us that they think our story would make good tv, and the producer of Judge Mathis is like, how is this entertaining? I said, “I don’t know, other than me writing a Twilight cookbook”, I’m not sure how, you sent me the letter. “Well, they’ll have to agree to come on TV, so before you read me those emails, just hold off and I’ll see if they are interested.” Ok, the renters sue us and God provides two reputable judges who think this stuff will make good TV and then I need to explain myself to the producers??? Read this, and maybe you’ll find something tantalizing, heee heee.
As if I’m not having enough stress, I started thinking that the letters were fake. I kinda just went through a whole gamete of emotions. My son, he just started back up at his old school today, so I have to email his former school and teacher, yuck. At least she answered, and was fine with our new found decision.
Back to Dragon Con. Why they call it that, is beyond me, I guess I had my own fire breathing dragon issues to keep me close to home. My husband had another thought. My husband said the reason why I wasn’t supposed to be on the plane is EARL. Hurricane Earl is headed to Atlanta and God didn’t want me to be in harms way. Instead he wanted me to help my son say “goodbye thanks for the short trip to public school”, and for me, “thanks for the rude email from friend of a friend about taking her recipes out of my cookbook”, a week after I spent a little fortune on producing the book “thanks God for the beautiful proof of my clients’ Liz Longo’s beautiful book on Australian birds.” “Thank you God for allowing me the opportunity to see my mom on her 63rd birthday, thank you Lord for allowing my publicity campaign with Smith Publicity to be extended via Iuniverse’s dime for an unspecified extension period of time, “thank you God for allowing me the opportunity to be verbally bashed by my husband for trying to explain my feelings, who in turn felt so guilty for his verbal thrashing of me, wrote an apology letter and now has a stomach ache, wonder why? “Thank you God for giving me the chance to go on Rachel Ray, she’s still thinking.” “Thank you God for helping me to learn to express myself and get the weird Facebook mail from my never was a boyfriend who warned me not to let “success go to my head.” Ha, I said, feet firmly planted here on earth. Thank you God for this never was a boyfriend/friends connections, because this has allowed me the opportunity to meet people who make a difference in the world, like his friend Alan who produces movies. Thank you God for giving me creative parents and a mother with a Masters in English who is editing at the moment the best children’s book on the New Orleans Oil Spill ever written. And a husband, who actually sat down long enough to read the book and who loved it! “And thank God for my can do attitude, give me lemons, I’ll make lemon meringue pie. Throw me manure, I’ll fertilize my garden with it. Give me words, I’ll use them. Recycle them, I own a green, environmentally conscious publishing business, POD (print on demand), you want it, it gets printed, it doesn’t collect dust or take up space, until you decide it is worthy. “Thank you god for allowing me the compassion to rent to those hateful people that abused our rental home and decided to sue us”. They’ll have their day in court, so will we, except a judge on TV will pay us if we win or lose, and we will even get an all expense paid trip to Chicago or LA, and I’ll get to bring our proof, and our pain.

With a towel wrapped around my body, no time to rinse the shampoo out of my hair, daughter at ballet camp out of town, husband at work and son watching Jimmy Neutron in our living room, “Hi, sorry I was late calling. I’ve got carpeting on the brain, the renters did a number on our home, I’m ready for the radio interview, and in five, four, three, two, one…. “Hello this is Sharmine, (like the toilet tissue) I have Gina Meyers on the line from California, she will be talking about Love at First Bite, The Unofficial Twilight Cookbook. All in a days work. And, that’s why God wanted me to be in Fresno and not Atlanta. And, on my way to that little old school full of love to pick up my once again happy, contented son late, since a hot dog at Sam’s Club landed in a free unexpected upgrade with my cell phone provider, plus free internet access (watch out, I didn’t sign Oprah’s pledge yet, joking), I saw a white tanker type truck with a trail of toilet paper dragging from the back. Some might be embarrassed for the truck, some might need to wipe their own stinky crack, some might not even notice, but the wordsmith, she wants to either teepee with it, or tell the truck, “hey let me get that for you.”
Important info for anyone who cares: Kasey of Bachelorette fame is on Facebook, he is from Fresno and his last name is Kuhl. That’s cool.
Stepdaughter said when Emmy award nominee also from Fresno, Chris Colfer (of Glee Fame) was doing a play at Clovis East (she was helping with). He was quite the diva. Quite a surprise. Not.

The Seeds of Wisdom, The Season of Change
There is an old saying and it goes something like this, friends come for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. With the coming of a new school year, brings new beginnings, new clothes, new shoes, new hairstyle, brand new backpack, new lunchbox, new friends, and a new teacher. It also brings new challenges, new uncertainties, sometimes a new town, new surroundings, new location, new dialects, new foods, new home, a new family. Sometimes new isn’t always necessarily better. Sometimes we liked the old house, the old friends, the old teacher, the old school, the old shoes, the old lunchbox, the old job, the old surroundings, the old family. Change is inevitable, circumstance bearable, outlook changeable. Have you ever watched a flame flicker? What colors did you see? The usual interpretation at least in my mind is that the color is red. But if you look closely and watch the flames dance with a combination of oxygen and light, you will see that the color is not red, it is many colors, blue, orange, yellow, and yes, sometimes red. That’s life to me, we hold on to the familiar, and often forget the wonders of really exploring, paying attention to our surroundings. My mother recently told me to remember to feed, prune and water the roses while she was on an out of the country trip. My father has often reminded me to remember to stop and smell the roses. Why are both of these sentiments right and not in opposition to one another? Both of these seeds of wisdom provide very helpful insight into what really matters in life. If you want to be able to take time to relax, and recuperate and appreciate, you must remember to feed the mind, make adjustments when necessary and to nourish the soul.
Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold. A circle is round it has no end, and that’s how long I want to be your friend.
